​​What should I do if I smell gas in my home?
Leave your home immediately and call 9-1-1 from a safe location. Do not use electrical switches, lighters, or anything that could ignite the gas.

How often should I test my smoke and carbon monoxide alarms?
Test your alarms monthly and replace the batteries at least once a year. Smoke alarms should be replaced every 10 years from the date of manufacture.

Does the fire department install smoke or carbon monoxide alarms?
While we don’t install alarms, we can provide guidance and assistance in ensuring they are properly placed and working correctly.
How can I get a copy of a fire incident report?
To request a fire incident report, please contact our administration office at 519-343-3475. There may be a small fee for processing the report.

How do I report a fire code violation or fire hazard?
If you suspect a fire code violation, such as blocked exits, improper storage of flammable materials, or missing fire alarms in a rental property, you can file a complaint with our Fire Prevention Officer at C.forbes@mintofiredept.on.ca.

Can I have a fire pit in my backyard?
Fire pits must be under 1m x1m (3ft x 3ft) and at least 3 meters (10 feet) away from buildings, fences, and other combustible materials. Only dry, clean wood should be burned, and fires must be supervised at all times.
