Burn Permits

Burn Permits

Open air burns larger than 1m (3ft) require a burn permit. Please call the Town of Minto Office (519-338-2511) at least 24 hours in advance to make the proper arrangements for a burn permit. Burn Permit Requests for Rural properties can also be submitted online in the Citzen Request Portal.

Burn By-Law

The Town of Minto has enacted a new burn by-law, effective January 1, 2025. This updated by-law introduces changes to the open-air burning regulations to enhance safety in our community.

Key Changes

Burn Permit Validity:

Burn permits will now be valid for 30 days from the date of issue. A 30 day permit period allows us to have a better understanding of when and where burning is occurring, ensuring compliance with regulations and reducing potential risks. This change will help us monitor active burns and protect our community more effectively.

Updated Open-Air Burn Regulations:

The following rules must be observed when setting or maintaining open-air fires:

  • Fires must be located at least 45 meters (150 feet) from any building, structure, property line, hedge, fence, roadway, overhead wire, or other combustible article.

  • Fires are prohibited if the wind velocity exceeds 10 km/h.

  • Fires must be kept at least 5 meters (16 feet) from any combustible ground cover.

  •

These updates have been introduced to prioritize safety and ensure responsible burning practices.
